Engineer/Maintenance Supervisor

Cawleys does not own or manage landfill sites preferring instead to invest in material recovery facilities, diversion from landfill via Energy from Waste and other processing technologies. The company pioneered the use of anaerobic digestion (AD) for commercial food waste in 2008, opening a state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in central Luton the same year.

These include food waste recycling, dedicated recyclate collections, hazardous waste services, Lithium recycling and award-winning environmental change management programmes through our associate company, Veris Strategies.

 

The company’s administrative and operational HQ is based in Luton with further sites in Milton Keynes and Wellingborough.

 

We are recruiting for an Engineer/Maintenance Supervisor to manage the maintenance team and ensure the smooth operation of our Materials Recycling Facility (MRF).

 

This is a hands on role and you will be responsible for the planned and reactive mechanical maintenance of the MRF always adhering to strict and Health and Safety procedures.

 

You will be required to produce daily; weekly and monthly reports relating to activities and works carried out within the MRF and document all works carried out in the maintenance log – this would include any works carried out by approved subcontractors.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To carry out equipment breakdowns effectively and efficiently.

  • To plan and carry out planned preventative Maintenance on all plant and equipment aiming to achieve maximum plant availability, with zero unplanned down time.

  • Supervise the daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance inspections.

  • Conduct safety compliance inspections and maintain records.

  • Ensure that programmed work is completed on time to the satisfaction of business requirement.

  • Working to health and safety, environmental other standards as they apply to the process.

  • Maintaining standard operating procedures as required.

  • Use radio frequency equipment as required.

  • Manage external buildings/service maintenance contracts (pat testing, fire alarms, compressor etc.)

  • Develop/document training material to facilitate transfer of skills and knowledge.

  • Effective and economical control of critical spares for all key processes.

  • Experience of working with engineering drawings.

  • Provide training, work direction and guidance.

  • Adhere to safe working practice and procedures including and not limited to lockout, tag out and working at heights etc.

  • Operate a variety of equipment including loaders, forklifts, high lifts, cranes, cherry pickers.

  • Supervise a team to ensure things are carried out correctly.

  • Make and review Risk Assessments and Method Statement

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an engineer.

  • A working knowledge of plant/machinery

  • Relevant qualifications & experience in welding, mechanical and or electrical engineering (18th Edition of the Electricity at Work Regulations)

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering

  • Excellent working knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace and legal compliance associated with the maintenance and repair of fixed installations.

  • Exceptional Organizational and time management skills

  • Good at information seeking and handling

  • Problem solving and fault diagnosis

  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize own workload.

  • Excellent internal and external customer service and oral/written communication skills

  • Experience of managing a small diverse team, working to strict deadlines and Key Performance Indicators.

  • Experience managing and working with sub-contractors

  • Computer literate, with experience using Microsoft products

  • Full and current UK driving license

  • Forklift license 3.5 ton counterbalance (desirable but not essential as full training will be given)
