Riding 100 miles for Ride High
As we all know, group charity events have been hit hard by the recent pandemic and unfortunately this has had a detrimental impact on the many charities that rely on these fundraisers to keep their good causes going.
One affected event that has now been cancelled is Ride London, which was due to take place this August. Two of our key team members, who also happen to be avid cyclists, were scheduled to take part to raise money for one of our favourite charities, Ride High.
Ride High offers young people in challenging situations the chance to ride and work with horses – an opportunity very few of them would ever get in usual circumstances. On hearing that the event had been cancelled, Ride High’s Helen Dixon, along with our very own team members, Dave Buckingham and Nigel Ingram were determined that the cancelled event wouldn’t stop them doing their bit for the charity. After putting their heads together they decided to do their own social distanced version of the cycle event in Milton Keynes.
Still a challenging 100 miles, the group are hoping that their bike ride, taking place on 16th August, will encourage sponsorship and donations from those who would like to support the Ride High charity during these challenge times.
Although the cycle route will replace the landmarks of London with the sights and sounds of Milton Keynes it will be no less challenging: Starting and finishing at the Ride High stables in Loughton, the route will take in lots of lovely villages through Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, passing through Astwood , Turvey, Harrold and North to Sharnbrook before heading to Great Barford for a scheduled stop by the river. It will then head to Old Warden, the home of the Shuttleworth collection, before making the way back to MK via Clophill, passing Ampthill to Woburn through the deer park then Heath and Reach, Great Brickhill and Little Horwood. Please note some of the places have 'hill' in the name, the route does involve some steep gradients and challenging terrain of an overall elevation of 1300m
Ride High is an extremely special charity and the therapeutic benefits the young people enjoy from working closely with the horses is invaluable. As such, we are asking for support from anyone who can help.
