Interceptor Pit Clean for a Large Airline
At Cawleys providing tailored solutions to the most challenging situations is what we do best.
This case study explores our specialist hazardous waste solution for one of the world’s largest charter airlines - providing scheduled and charter flights from the United Kingdom and Ireland to destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.
A challenging situation
Adding a larger, state of the art aeroplane to their current fleet required the company to arrange an inspection of their interceptor pit to assess the strength of the current concrete floor.
An interceptor is an underground chamber that collects surface water, silt, grit and soil, as well as traces of oil, diesel and other hydrocarbons that may leak from the surface and allows the remaining wastewater to be discharged safely into the main sewerage system.
Before any inspection could take place, the interceptor pit needed to be fully cleaned - incredibly challenging due to its size, the large waste build up and confined space entry issues.
Complete solution
Beginning with a site visit to conduct a full scoping exercise and gather all the information required for the necessary risk and method assessments, our specialist team created a detailed plan to clean the pit.
Tackling years of waste build up our confined space entry team utilised a range of equipment such as our Eco Vac Tanker and specialist jetting equipment to clean the interceptor pit from top to bottom.
All of the hazardous waste removed was then transported and disposed of using an approved liquid treatment facility, leaving behind a sparkling interceptor pit ready for inspection!
If you have an interceptor, we recommend a scheduled cleaning and maintenance programme to ensure you remain compliant, prevent build up and minimise pollution. Get in touch with our specialist team today to find out more.
