Award win: Green Apple Award Food Waste Reduction
The Cawleys Group, in partnership with Trinity Leeds shopping centre, celebrated winning the Food Waste Reduction award at the recent International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Practice ceremony held in London at the House of Commons.
The Green Organisation acknowledged the new Leeds retail centre and The Cawleys Group, consisting of recycling and waste management company Cawleys and stakeholder engagement specialists Veris Strategies, for their recent ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign.
The project launched in December 2014 in over 117 of Trinity Leeds retail outlets and in less than a year the project has had a massive impact in recycling and waste practices.
Local communities have benefited from the ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign with Veris Strategies new and innovative community projects. A coffee grounds collection service has redistributed the coffee waste to public gardens and parks as a soil conditioner, providing a practical and greener recycling alternative.
Anna Cawley, Head of Customer Services at Cawleys, said, “We are honoured to have won this award in partnership with Trinity Leeds. It has been a privilege working alongside the facilities management team to ensure that Trinity Leeds is now a leader in green retail sustainability practices.
“Creating new inventive ways to reduce the amount of waste being produced in the corporate sector is something that Cawleys and Veris Strategies pride themselves on. We are delighted to have been able to develop a system that Trinity Leeds can use to environmentally benefit vendors, shoppers and the local community.”
