University of Bedfordshire X Cawleys
The University of Bedfordshire has more than 24,000 students from over 100 countries, and 1,200 members of staff. Reflecting the lively life of the university, Cawleys provides an energetic waste collection service at each of the university sites. From the university’s flagship centre in Luton; the leafy campus in Bedford; the Elizabethan mansion at Putteridge Bury; the purpose built nursing and midwifery facility in Aylesbury, to the University Centre MK, Cawleys covers it all. A daily service ensures the sites are clean and well managed, and that the university achieves the exacting environmental standards which students and academics expect.
Space is at a premium at many of the sites but even so segregation of glass, food, and dry recyclate from the general waste is encouraged to help the university achieve the maximum value from its recyclate, with zero waste to landfill.
Cawleys ability to react quickly is important to Bedfordshire University.
Cawleys ability to react quickly is important to Bedfordshire University, making it possible for us to respond to both spontaneous student parties and long term planned events of any size with speed, and the minimum carbon transport footprint.
The university has world-leading research in some nine different areas, and expects a corresponding level of investment in new ideas and approaches from its waste management suppler too. Cawleys has always taken a technological-driven approach to waste management, for example being the first company to establish a commercial food waste collection service employing anaerobic digestion, and being an early innovator in segregation methods, investing in its own Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Luton.
All these technologies are employed by Bedfordshire University as part of our waste management service.
In September Cawleys will run a series of student engagement activities helping to communicate the importance of waste stream segregation, highlighting the emphasis which the university places in achieving top environmental credentials. As each successive year of students arrive at campus they can all be assured that by working with Cawleys the university is maintaining its target of 100% diversion of waste from landfill.
