COP26 Transport Day
National Transport day falls on the 10th of November during the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). The transport sector is a crucial target in achieving sustainability goals at COP26. Transport day will see important topics, such as the expansion of the electric vehicles market, the ongoing issue around lithium-ion battery (LIB) disposal as well as the decarbonisation of the transport sector discussed in an order to benefit the sustainability of our planet.
At Cawleys we are doing our bit to support goals laid out during COP26 for the Transport sector. We have recently expanded further into the Lithium battery sector with our new business unit Lithium Battery Recycling. Lithium Battery Recycling are experts in recycling and dismantling of LIB’s. As the market for electric vehicles increases so will the volume of end-of-life batteries. We specialise in the safe collection and disposal of lithium batteries, whilst ensuring that all recoverable elements can be recycled for re-use in future battery production.
From our specialist facility we have safely converted numerous spent LIB’s into second life; this process delays the batteries becoming waste and sees them repurposed to power other electric supplies. We have repurposed high volumes of end-of-life LIB’s to repowering areas of our site, including our own electric vehicle charging ports to charge staff electric vehicles further extending the life of these near spent LIB’s.
Expanding further we have our own long-term net-zero goals, this starts with carbon neutral certifications in 2022 via carbon reduction and offsetting. However, this is just the first step in our long roadmap to achieving net-zero emissions. We have planned additional investments in electrifying our fleet of vehicles following successful initial trials of electric trade waste vehicles. Further changes we have made include eliminating our scope 2 emissions by moving to a green energy tariff from September 2021.
With the Transport sector moving heavily to an electric vehicle centred market the volume of damaged or end of life electric vehicles will increase dramatically over the next 5-10 years. With this in mind, it pays to plan ahead. Our services will manage any lithium batteries you find in your possession safely and securely. Our expert consultants can discuss your lithium battery needs and help you compliantly store or ship your battery to our approved facility.
